Bern, Switzerland – Kinetic artist Zimoun creates installations featuring a variety of simple elements such as cardboard boxes and cotton balls that produce sounds that help define a space. The result is an immersive and theatrical experience for his audiences.
‘I try to reduce the complexity of the work in its matter as much as possible, but not in its behaviour,’ says Zimoun. ‘A big sound is generated from many small elements, and the pieces come alive with a micro-complex sound. I can imagine the installations working in a variety of spaces. Often I develop a piece for a specific space.’
This pared-down approach shows how effective minimalist yet intricate design can be. Zimoun creates sensory experiences for his audiences by repeating simple sounds.
