Scotch craft: Carving out whisky’s heritage

London – Here Design studio has collaborated with cabinetmakers, engravers and calligraphers to reflect the craftsmanship of The Balvenie 40 whisky.

‘There is a growing appreciation for the craftsman,’ Here Design creative partner Mark Paton tells LS:N Global.

The single malt Scotch whisky, created by William Grant & Sons malt master David Stewart as a limited edition of 150 bottles, was matured for more than 40 years in sherry casks. This is reflected in craftsman Sam Chinnery’s bespoke oak box. His father hand-graved the whisky’s age and one of the world’s leading calligraphers, Peter Horridge, hand-wrote the details on each bottle label.

‘It’s always a pleasure to listen to, and learn from, someone who has spent their life honing and refining their craft – whether they’re a malt master or a cabinetmaker,’ adds Paton.
