New York – Adidas has opened its flagship store in the heart of New York with an emphasis on sustainability.

  • Adidas NYC recreates the feeling of being in a stadium
  • Textures and finishes have been preserved from the original building to reduce the environmental impact

The novel retail concept, which includes a tunnel entrance and locker rooms rather than dressing rooms, invites consumers to celebrate creativity in sport.

Designed in collaboration with sustainably minded creative agency Parley for the Oceans, the shop features hangers and mannequins produced from recycled plastic and customers can purchase a re-usable adidas and Parley water bottle, the proceeds of which will help fund Parley’s beach clean-up initiative in the Maldives.

‘Adidas NYC is a crucial component of our Creating the New strategy, which puts a major business focus on influential cities such as New York,’ says adidas Group CEO Kasper Rorsted. ‘Everything is tailored for athletes’ needs and desires to help them make a difference in their game, in their life and in their world.’

The Big Picture

In bringing sustainability to its shop floor adidas is demonstrating a Whole-system Thinking approach to retail.
