30 : 06 : 2016 Berlin : New Bricolage Living : Restaurant

Berlin – New bar and restaurant Panama is inspired by a classic German children’s book.

  • The restaurant is the latest venture from hospitality group Contemporary Food Lab
  • Head chef Sophia Rudolph has developed a modern German menu that embraces cultural diversity

Located in a former factory building in Potsdamer Strasse, Panama is inspired by the German children’s story Oh, wie schön ist Panama (Oh, how beautiful Panama is) by Janosch, which follows the adventures of a bear and a tiger as they journey to find the mystical land of Panama.

The restaurant aims to create a sense of adventure in a comfortable setting. Its rooms are filled with contemporary artworks curated by founder Ludwig Cramer-Klett.

Designed by Contemporary Food Lab’s in-house designers in collaboration with interior architects Nora Witzigmann and Karo Butzert, the space features locally sourced and imported materials including German ash wood and terrazzo.

‘It’s about going on a journey, expanding your mind, realising the beauty of the world we live in,’ says Cramer-Klett. ‘The aesthetic of the restaurant should make you feel like you are in an exotic, tropical place, but at the same time, in reality.’
