We heart art: Luxury firm backs arts project

London – Luxury goods company Louis Vuitton is demonstrating its commitment to the London art scene with a new project in collaboration with five top galleries and a sponsorship package worth over £1m.

Up to 750 young people are set to benefit over the next three years from the Louis Vuitton Young Arts Project, which brings together Tate Britain, the Whitechapel Gallery, the Hayward Gallery, the Royal Academy of Arts and the South London Gallery. Artists such as Tracey Emin, Gary Hume and Michael Landy will give the participants an insight into their work, while Tate director Sir Nicholas Serota and Charles Saumarez Smith, chief executive of the Royal Academy, will explain how the art world works as part of an insight and education initiative.

‘The project is designed to open up career opportunities for young people in London,’ says Margot Heller, director of the South London Gallery. ‘It will give young artists access to industry figures, collectors and galleries and show them the inner workings of the five galleries involved.’
