Design Miami/ 2015: Living landscape

07 : 12 : 2015 The Future Perfect : Callico Wallpaper : Lex Pot

Miami – Fragments brings together furniture and wallpaper, in an installation by designer Lex Pot and Calico Wallpaper.

  • Exhibited by gallery The Future Perfect, Fragments is part of the Design Miami/ Design Curio programme
  • The series of furniture, small accessories and wall coverings were developed in collaboration with David Alhadeff, The Future Perfect founder

Exploring the dialogue between rough fragments of stone that naturally occur in quarries and geometric machine-finished stone, Dutch designer Pott created a series of pieces from Belgian blue stone. Pieces in the collection, which include a dining table and a side table, each feature a rich juxtaposition of textures achieved by assembling raw slabs with smooth polished stone.

Accompanying the furniture collection, Nicholas and Rachel Cope of Calico Wallpaper also used the raw material of blue stone powder from the same quarry and created a unique wall covering for the installation. The powdered stone is mixed with mica and painted on Belgian linen. This treatment gives the pigmentation of the surface a soft iridescent glow, framing the furniture in a landscape-like scene.

Calico is applying the wall covering on-site throughout the week so visitors to Design Miami/ can view the developing surface. ‘The application of the wall design adds a live performance element to the space,’ Alhadeff tells LS:N Global.

The Big Picture

In our increasingly digital environment, the status of raw, earthy materials continues to be elevated. LS:N Global is reporting live from Design Miami/ so keep an eye on our Seed and Shows sections.
