Reflective space: Barber Osgerby goes upside down at the V&A for London Design Festival

Poetry and Precision by BMW and Barber & Osgerby

London – Design studio Barber Osgerby has teamed up with BMW’s design team for a collaborative installation on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum during the London Design Festival.

Installed in the Raphael Gallery of the Victoria and Albert Museum, Double Space for BMW – Precision & Poetry in Motion is a kinetic sculpture made of two mirrored silver structures that will hang from the ceiling. They will reflect both the viewers and the statues below, and will move in choreographed time to create a ‘distorted view of the Raphael cartoons on display’, according to the press release.

The sculptures are inspired by the smooth metal surface of a BMW car that reflects its surroundings as it zooms by.

‘We are passionate about the aesthetics of motion, an experience that BMW Design translates into technical precision and poetic meaning,’ says Karim Habib, head of design at BMW. ‘Barber Osgerby reflects the design philosophy of the BMW brand in this kinetic installation. With its unusual dimensions, Double Space for BMW opens up new perspectives in the Victoria and Albert’s Raphael Gallery, while at the same time forging an alluring union of past and present.’

Double Space for BMW will be launched at the London Design Festival and will be open to the public until 24 October.
