Latino vibe: restaurant gives customers the feeling of another place

New York – A new restaurant gives customers a Latin American experience through the rawness of its architecture, which evokes feelings of a different time and place. Customers at Pio Pio restaurant are transported away from the famously rough Hell’s Kitchen district in New York.

Pio Pio was designed by the San Diego-based Sebastian Mariscal Studio. The project touches emotions via its environment and juxtaposition of space rather than overt cultural elements, according to Mariscal.

This can be seen in the contrasting materials used: concrete, stone and wood, which are typically seen in Latin American architecture. The interior’s celebration of the heavy rawness of such materials links to our recent Rough Luxe trend, where unfinished aesthetics are becoming ever more important when it comes to inspiring an emotional response.
