Nagoya, Japan – One of Japan’s most closely watched young artists, Kohei Nawa, has created a world of ephemeral foam shapes for his latest installation, Foam.
The large-scale project, held as part of Nagoya city’s Aichi Triennale, allows guests to wander through a dark room filled with billowing foam peaks made of water, detergent and glycerin.
The work sees Nawa stretch the possibilities of sculpture, creating a cloud-like, interactive world where visitors can mould and shape the foam as they walk through it.
The ‘shapeless’ exhibition shows that some designers are turning their focus from the long-lasting to the here and now. For more examples of the design cues this is instigating, read our Ephemeral Foam micro Inspire.
