New York – Branding agency Cinnamon Projects has created a range of scents inspired by the hours of the day.
As part of their daily routine, Charlie Stackhouse and Andrew Cinnamon of Cinnamon Projects collate and categorise a vast number of inspiring visuals. Series 01 was born after they noticed strong similarities between the tone, texture, colour and tenor of the images depending on the time of day when they were found.
‘8:00am is sharp, pale and balanced. Drawings by Matisse and photos by Irving Penn come to mind,’ Stackhouse tells LS:N Global. ‘11:00pm is grainy, dark and saturated. Think Nan Goldin and Francis Bacon.’ The process used to match visuals with scents was deeply subjective. ‘To create the scents, we followed a series of self-developed creative equations, such as subject, plus colour, plus mood, equals note.’
The duo hope that people will layer the scents throughout the day and create unique combinations. ‘By definition, an accord is a composition in which notes relinquish their character to create a new scent impression,’ explains Stackhouse.
Series 01 is reminiscent of the Le Cinéma Olfactif project, which matches scents to events on-screen. For more, read our Sensory Splurge microtrend.
