US – The TouchJet Wave turns smart tv's into touchscreens, enabling users to supersize their smartphones.
Rather than replace the remote control, the Wave, expected to be available in 2016, brings new functionality to existing televisions everywhere by enabling people to operate their sets using a finger or stylus.
Working in much the same way as a laser keyboard, the Wave uses a snap-on, bleeding-edge infrared sensor that sits on top of the tv to capture movements on the screen, and relays this information back to the mobile device. From editing images to playing games and giving presentations, the Wave improves any app that benefits from a larger screen and offers a way for people to get more from their humble television.
The Big Picture: Commercial technology innovates at a rapid pace, which means that today’s gadgets are out of date before long. Modular technologies such as TouchJet are helping consumers frustrated with obsolescence to get more from their devices for longer.
