True beauty: Tools make cosmetics you can trust

19.06.2013 Transparency : Infuser : Eyeliner

London – Truth and transparency is a growing issue in the beauty industry. Royal College of Art graduate Lauren Davies has created a DIY set of tools to appeal to consumers fed up with the hidden chemicals and unguents we freely rub on our bodies without knowing what they are.

The Alchemist’s Dressing Table is a set of analogue tools that enable you to make your own beauty products at home. A distiller makes floral waters and essential oils, while a kohl plate makes eyeliner and mascara, and a scent infuser is used to macerate plants to make creams and balms.

‘[The piece] is a speculation about the future of cosmetics for the modern woman who has a desire to be more in control of what she uses on her skin,’ explains Davies. ‘By using the tools I believe it is possible to forge a stronger connection to one’s beauty rituals.’
