The issue of climate change has been at the forefront of consumers’ minds for some time. The need to find new ways to communicate this important message lies at the heart of Disegno and Universal Design Studio’s exhibition hosted at The Aram Gallery.

Design studio Parsons & Charlesworth, for example, created Future Climate [Hi]stories, a publication that blends scientific fact with fiction by telling stories of like-minded tribes establishing new cultural practices and rituals, while artist and film-maker Ilona Gaynor took a darker approach, using a humble printer to confront visitors with the visceral impact that climate change will have on their body and the environment.

‘We wanted to take a design approach to the problem of climate change as it brings a more physical and visual way of communicating the concept,’ Disegno deputy editor Oli Stratford tells LS:N Global.

The Big Picture: Conscious consumerism is feeding back into the work of designers around the world, who are thinking on a planetary as well as a local scale. Read our macrotrend Whole-system Thinking for more.
