Wooden frame: Interiors are a shell of seclusion

06 : 10 : 2013 Craft : Zemberek Design Office : Instanbul

Istanbul – Turkish architects Zemberek Design Office were given the challenge of redesigning a space that would be both showroom and office for Vigoss Textile, within a manufacturing building of another textile company.

The architects chose to create an enclosure that blended the clothing racks seamlessly into the walls, with office desks in the middle. The wooden structure is a clean, simplistic use of the material that is both modern and craft-like in its aesthetic.

The shell has both a showcase and a separation element. In a statement, the architects said they had created ‘a perception of non-belonging in the space, to highlight the difference between existing function and the new [office]’.

The use of wood as a barrier and a container brings to mind our Soft Reduction design direction, in which designers are embracing the craft aesthetic to celebrate simplicity and highlight products.
