London – Trained as a painter, Alessandro Brighetti spent three years working with magnets to create his Narchitecture series. One piece in the series, Cyclothymia, is now on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum as part of the London Design Festival.

Cyclothymia is made using a mixture of ferrofluids, chemicals that become reactive in a magnetic field. The sculpture appears to come to life, revealing its form, when the magnets attract the mixture.

The combination of art and science comes naturally to Brighetti. ‘I was born in a family of doctors, but that was not my nature,’ he tells LS:N Global. ‘But it claims its space in my artwork. It is a part of me.’

For more on the London Design Festival, see our Show Preview and look out for our daily coverage of the event.

Cyclothymia will be on show at the Victoria and Albert Museum until 22 September.
