Clever cap: Top turns a bottle into a humidifier

21 : 06 : 2013 Bottle : The Amazing Humidifier : Humidifier

South Korea – Product designers Amazing Grace have developed a screw-top attachment that transforms any water bottle into a humidifier.

The Amazing Humidifier is ideal in living environments with limited space such as university dormitories or small flats as it repurposes materials that are readily to hand. Weighing just 75g and measuring 7cm in diameter, the cap is fitted with a filter and a fan that can be powered from a laptop, smartphone or other computer device using a USB attachment. Retailing for $34 (€25.80, £22), the humidifier acts as a kind of clever parasite – leeching off an everyday product to deliver space-enhancing results.

The makers tout the product’s benefits when compared with larger, traditional humidifier models, claiming that the Amazing Humidifier is compact, quiet, portable and dependent, and that the water bottle makes a readily available and recyclable base.

As living spaces are squeezed, designers are adapting to the need for objects that are useful and adaptable. For more on how new technologies are making the most of multi-purpose household demands, see our The Hacked Home microtrend.
