US – Nike has introduced the PHOTOiD app that enables people to customise Nike shoes from the colours in their Instagram photos.
Brands are increasingly turning to platforms such as Instagram, Vine and Tumblr rather than traditional methods, in order to unveil new collections and innovations, as we reported in our On the App-Walk microtrend.
Nike PHOTOiD users select a photo from their Instagram account and choose a shoe from one of the designs. The PHOTOiD app applies the colours from that photo to the shoe, creating a unique design. Users can then share their designs via social media and order them directly from the site.
The result is bespoke footwear from photographs that have meaning for the customer.
