Ukraine – Ukrainian designer Vasiliy Butenko challenged himself to create a lamp that was easy to assemble, had as few parts as possible yet was multi-functional.
The result is the OOO table lamp that is both functional and fun. The bright yellow piece features a 1mm thick plate at the top and a 3mm thick plate at the bottom, connected by a column. The only other parts are two magnets, a screw and a light bulb.
The lamp swivels, the top can be laid flat like a table, angled to create a nightlight or desk light, or set vertically for visual decoration. The light shines out from under the top plate, and users can adjust it as they wish.
The piece was inspired by the 1920s era. It is simple and expressive with a sense of playfulness. With its circular design and bright yellow aesthetic, it can also be seen as representative of the sun and the solar system.
Brands are blurring the concepts of function, business and leisure, creating playful, yet useful objects. For more, read our Fun and Functionality Inspire.
