Stockholm – Stockholm-based studio Humans Since 1982 has combined 288 analogue clocks to create a moving installation that shows the time digitally and in letter form on a large visual display.
In the piece, called A Million Times, 576 motors move each minute and hour hand independently. The time is shown in a digital clock format, while the monochrome patterns that appear are controlled by customised software via an iPad.
The design takes a functional object and transforms it into an artwork, while allowing it to continue to perform as a clock. It will be presented at Design Days Dubai from 18 to 21 March 2013.
Data is becoming increasingly visualised. For more on this concept, read our Data Visualised section of our London Design Festival Inspire feature.
