London – UK designer Ella Doran has created the Geo Carved Rug for carpet retailer WovenGround.
Made from New Zealand wool, the rug has a 3D look, caused by the way in which it was cut. The result is a carpet with shadows and a range of textures on the surface that encourages you to sample its different levels.
‘I have always been fascinated by depth and capturing texture, which comes from my textiles background,’ Doran tells LS:N Global. ‘It took more than a year to create, and now it has literally come to life.’
Doran is the latest in a line of product and furniture designers who have branched into experimenting with misleading surface textures. For more, read our Haptic Illusion design direction.
