Eindhoven, the Netherlands – Students at the University of Technology in Eindhoven have designed and built a series of simple, contemplative structures as part of their ‘Little Temple’ project. The project, by a group of eight Masters students, was inspired by the abbey of Le Thoronet in Provence, southeast France, a medieval abbey particularly known for the purity and harmony of its architecture.
The students’ work prioritises basic materials – concrete, wood, aluminium siding – and clean lines, all the better for allowing mental respite and tranquil rumination. These little temples – a study, too, in light and clarity – sit comfortably in our trend on Spiritual Retreats, welcoming new pilgrims in search of a quiet space in a hectic world.
