London – Product designer Mathias Hahn has created Preserves, a series of ‘experimental glass vessels’ inspired by the traditional processes of harvesting and preserving fruit.
The revivalist inspiration for the project resulted in unusual combinations of materials. One vessel has a concrete weight on top, a reference to a method of sealing jars with heavy stones. Other jars are sealed with brass wire or a glass cylinder, while cork is used for decorative purposes.
The vessels are the result of a collaboration with the upmarket Vienna jam brand Staud’s, and were presented at Vienna Design Week.
Hahn’s bold combinations of materials and warm colour palette fit nicely into the Geo Luxe design direction we noticed in our review of last spring’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan.
