Stuttgart – For a wine shop without any extra space for storage, design studio Furch Gestaltung + Produktion scrapped traditional shelving methods and filled the space with multi-coloured wire mat units.
The Weinhandlung Kreis wine shop needed to fit 12,000 bottles and a tasting bar into an area of 70 square metres. To meet this requirement, the studio dispensed with furniture entirely, combining retail and storage into a grid that it compared to a spreadsheet, ‘full of data without wasting any space on structure’.
The studio installed 386 of these shelving units, each accommodating 25 bottles, in a range of 21 colours. Dark walls covered in black lime plaster create an appealing contrast with the bright, powder-coated wire. Up to six of the modular units can be stacked on top of one another.
