Spoon-fed: Tableware for synaesthetic dining

Eindhoven – South Korean designer Jinhyun Jeon presented Tableware as Sensorial Stimuli at her recent graduation show at Design Academy Eindhoven.

The premise of the project was that tableware should be about more than simply conveying food to the mouth. ‘An everyday event, taste is created as a combination of more than five senses,’ says Jeon. ‘By exploring synaesthesia, if we can stretch the borders of what tableware can do, the eating experience can be enriched in multi-cross-wiring ways.’

Jeon paired each utensil with specific flavours, varying textures to enhance each combination. With so many varieties of tableware for specific uses, the project can be viewed as a post-modern twist on elaborate formal cutlery.
