Model mayhem: Film makes catwalk interactive

New York – Director Barnaby Roper, who makes frenzied, psychedelic short films for high-profile clients including Kanyé West and Karl Lagerfeld, has created The Future Catwalk for culture site Nowness.

The Future Catwalk is an interactive short film in which Dutch model Mirte Maas struts down an invisible and seemingly unending runway. Pressing any letter on the keyboard plunges Maas into one of 26 surreal vignettes. As she changes between six different outfits, Maas is propelled forward to a soundtrack by Tristan Bechet.

As more and more people view runway shows online, the element of interaction in the film is a logical step forward. ‘I like that the viewer has the choice and that I am not dictating to them how they should view it,’ Roper told Nowness. ‘Most of all, I like the possibilities of where interactivity could and will go in the future.’
