Quebec – Industrial designer Samuel Nelson Bernier has combined the principle of sustainable upcycling with 3D printing to create a new DIY tool, Project RE_.
The scheme lets people modify products and, using low-cost 3D printing, to create customised lids that can be screwed or clipped onto standard jars, cans and bottles to form new objects.
Bernier shares his inspiration for each project online with a step-by-step guide, while downloadable designs motivate consumers to become more hands on and make their own pieces.
This is a great way to use discarded materials. For more examples of consumers hacking and customising products, read our Hacked Home microtrend.
