UK – Britain’s coastline is aglow with more than 2,000 illuminated tents, pitched by creative agency Artichoke in collaboration with director Deborah Warner, actress Fiona Shaw and composer Mel Mercier.
The glowing tents form Peace Camp, an immersive installation that celebrates the United Nations Olympic Truce, which calls on countries to lay down their arms for the duration of the Olympic Games.
Visitors to the camp sites can wander around the tents and listen to a soundscape of love poetry, which the creators hope will inspire them to create their own poems that they can then submit through the Peace Camp website.
‘The project is a celebration of the great tradition of love poetry, which lies at the heart of our Nation, as well as a celebration of the astonishing beauty and landscape of our coastline,’ explains Warner. ‘The audience experiences both a sense of holiday and fun, as well as something more profound and perhaps even spiritual.’
The isolated clusters of tents created for the project are reminiscent of the hotels featured in our New Sublimity Tourism microtrend.
