Massachusetts, US – Twine, a new product from Supermechanical, sends emails, tweets or text messages to tell owners their washing is done, the plants need watering or the kids should do their homework.
Twine sends alerts based on internal and external sensors. If a Twine box is attached to a washer-dryer, it detects the vibrations to send a text when the laundry is done. Its moisture sensor detects when the plants need watering and the temperature sensor monitors whether the pipes are in danger of freezing.
Sensors are immediately recognised by the block’s web app, Spool, which connects and monitors Twine over wifi. Additional external sensors are also in production, including a magnetic switch able to trigger door alarms.
This product feeds into the idea of an internet of things. For more on how connected and smart objects will help us in the near future, read our inform with Andy Stanford-Clark.
