Hälsingland, Sweden – Packaging design company Tempix has created a barcode for use on food products that vanishes once an item reaches its sell-by date.
‘In years to come there will be lots of developments in intelligent packaging,’ says Flemming Birch, senior consultant at the Retail Institute of Scandinavia. ‘Consumers will not need to rely on brands or retailers to make a decision on freshness.’
This is a strong example of Prohibition Culture. Items stamped with this barcode cannot be scanned after the sell-by date.
