Eindhoven, The Netherlands – Dutch designer Jólan van der Wiel has created a method of making stools from iron filings using magnetic force. The stools will be presented at Dutch Design Year a year-long exhibition running off the back of Dutch Design Week.
The stools are made in a machine that pulls the filings up and apart using magnets. Using a natural force in this way produces an organic and freakish form.
Similar to Studio Glithero’s mirror frames shown at London Design Festival, the pieces solidify, preserving the moment they turn from iron filings to stools.
Look out for LS:N Global’s forthcoming review of Dutch Design Week, coming soon to our Shows section.
