Eindhoven, The Netherlands – An exhibition called Mass is exploring and recontextualising mass-produced objects as part of Dutch Design Week.
The exhibition includes Max Lipsey’s Acciaio Series, furniture made from lightweight steel tubing commonly used for bicycle frames. Rachel Griffin’s Swell furniture collection also redefines a process of mass production by looking at how soft foam is used in seating.
‘There is a naivety inherent in trying to fabricate a mass-produced object on a smaller scale,’ says Griffin. ‘This attitude can often lead to innovation.’
