Berlin – German publisher Tableaux Argentés has launched a new publication that it hopes will appeal to a new generation of sophisticated travellers.
The Travel Almanac focuses on experiences and personal perspectives of travelling, rather than on exotic destinations. Interestingly for a travel publication, the launch issue is illustrated with portraits of featured interviewees, rather than hospitality or travel photography.
The simple cover features a single black and white portrait of director David Lynch. Inside, artists and creatives, including photographer Rinko Kawauchi and art dealer Javier Peres, discuss their travel experiences, but rarely recommend destinations.
‘One of our goals with this publication was not simply to focus on current events in travel today, but also on the timeless aspect of travelling,’ says editor-in-chief Paul Kominek.
The Travel Almanac is a great example of a publication separating itself from its competitors by offering a unique and personal viewpoint. Magazines such as Port are proving that print publishing is not dead, but needs new and creative approaches.
