Paris – Maison Martin Margiela presented its spring/summer 2012 menswear collection with a video then a runway show in an old theatre, to give the audience a live experience of the detail-focused range.
Transparency and volume were the main themes of the collection, with loose-weave knits revealing shirts, jackets over-pressed so that the lining details are visible, and oversized raincoats and jackets with a sheer gauzy feel. Rolled up trousers revealed brightly coloured prints, while shirts and scarves featured a Paisley print pattern, intended as a visible layer through sheer fabrics. The MMM signature of hybrid garments was still evident this season in a Perfecto-style reworked dinner jacket.
This season’s mixed media presentation shows MMM following the trend for brands to Show Your Working, in this case inviting customers to see as much detail of the design processes as possible.
