Paris – The leap from casual to uniform has been a natural progression for Alexander Wang along his menswear journey.
After experimenting with a casual capsule range called T last season, Wang has launched his first full menswear line for spring/summer 2012, focusing on classics that men understand. ‘For me, when it comes to menswear it comes down to uniform,’ says Wang. ‘I wanted to visit the classics and things that guys know and understand.’
Sportswear is Wang’s signature. The building blocks of the collection include tracksuit trousers, running shorts, sweaters and varsity jackets alongside more technical mixed fabric knit and outerwear pieces such as a glazed nylon jacket finished with paper-thin leather that Wang calls ‘calf chiffon’.
For Wang’s menswear offer, detail and fabric innovation are his driving design inspirations. For details of a softer design direction, read LS:N Global’s Tactile Purity Inspire report.
