San Francisco – twiddler, a new iPhone application, is set to inject a sense of spontaneity and unplanned adventure into travel. Users of the application, which was developed by San Francisco-based company thumbble, identify a particular mood on the programme and specify their location and how much spare time they have to kill. The application then makes suggestions of places to visit, be they sightseeing destinations or local bars or shops.
Although currently available only for San Francisco, the application, once it is rolled out across more cities, could well put an end to the guidebook as we know it. Sharp tour guide companies will start developing similar smartphone applications now.
