Beijing – As part of Chinese arts festival Get it Louder, SO-IL architects has created a mobile building in Beijing featuring thousands of moving mirrored panels that reflect the environment.
Between now and October 22 the temporary pavilion Flockr will be transported to Shanghai for the second half of the festival. ‘The economic environment has become so unpredictable that short-term, low-cost projects are the most feasible,’ says SO-IL partner Florian Idenburg. ‘You have to quickly grasp the local conditions and provide a lean and elemental solution that provides a sense of specificity – a fleeting mark – even if only for an instant.’
Hence, although the womb-like shape of the building in Beijing will remain, passers-by will be able to see the panels of the building respond to wind and light, and reflect the mood of the city.
From mobile retail to pop-up cinemas, brands are increasingly using ways to bring the experience to consumers. With Flockr, SO-IL demonstrates that this experience can be unique as well.
