Paris – ‘It’s about freedom and getting away’, Céline designer Phoebe Philo said after her spring/summer 2011 show in Paris this weekend.
For one of the most influential collections in the fashion show calendar, Philo introduced an artisanal touch to her otherwise minimal, strict, luxury design aesthetic. Handwoven silk threads were used for a macramé-effect tunic and vest, while quilted or denim pieces also added to the crafted feel.
The signature luxe minimalism remained, however. Long, fluid and loose hemmed trousers and boxy cape jackets were the highlights in a pale neutral colour palette. Slick leather pieces added polish among the pops of graphic, paisley prints.
