Stockholm – Electrolux Design Lab has announced the finalists of its latest competition, in which entrants offered solutions for compact living in the future.
Stand-outs from the eight finalists include two very clever fridge ideas. The Bio Robot Refrigerator by Yuriy Dmitriev aims to keep individual items cold by using a biopolymer gel that morphs around them. The External Fridge by Nicolas Hubert lives outside the house. When the ambient temperature is cold enough, for example at night or in winter, the fridge shuts off and saves energy. When it is warm and sunny, the fridge’s solar panels use the light to make energy to keep the food cold.
The winner will be announced on 23 September.
