Olympia, Washington – Instead of throwing away packaging, you could plant it next time.
The Life Box range developed by Paul Stamets, mycologist, author and founder of Fungi Perfecti LLC, contains spores and seeds infused inside packaging material made of recycled fibre, which can be planted.
In the Tree Life Box, the first stage of growing a tree is to tear up the large pieces so it will fit inside a plastic bag. People are then advised to soak the pieces in cold water for 10 minutes, then drain. After cooling them in a fridge the seeds are ready to be planted.
‘Once the trees become established, after five years, they will need little care aside from the occasional watering,’ explains Stamets. For more on how brands should use clever packaging, read our Innovate article on Puma/Fuseproject.
