US – The wearable device enables users to purchase products, open their cars and replace access cards.
Security is a prominent feature of Token, which offers a two-factor authentication process for users. The first factor is a biometric reading of the wearer’s fingerprint, scanned on the inside of the ring.
The second authentication factor comes into play when within range of a Bluetooth-connected device. After saving their password on the supporting app, users can knock twice on a hard surface when in range of a connected device to log in automatically. The ring also has optical sensors to recognise when a ring has been taken off and shut itself down to prevent unauthorised use.
The ring allows users to make payments at contactless purchase points. With payment card information added to the app, the ring can be used in stores and to pay for public transport. So far, the company has worked with Mastercard and Visa to ensure secure payment processes.
