Paris – Airmotion Laboratories has joined forces with Kilo to create an anti-pollution mask for children.

  • In 2016, UNICEF reported that 300m children live in areas with the most toxic recorded levels of outdoor air pollution
  • Woobi Play uses an approved and certified high-efficiency particulate arrestance (HEPA) micro-filter, which filters out about 95% of airborne particulate matter

The Woobi Play is a playful and safe solution for children aged six and over. While most masks on the market typically hide the face, Woobi’s translucent, medical-grade silicone structure enables users to read and interact with one another easily.

The coloured parts are modular, so parents and children can assemble the Woobi Play together, creating an educational experience in which kids learn about the product design and risks associated with pollution – and ultimately, a sense of ownership and autonomy.

‘This project is a bold shot at designing a simple, new typology that transforms a professional, protective mask to fit into a child’s universe,’ says Lars Larsen, founder and head of design at Kilo.

The Big Picture

As air quality becomes a key consumer concern, brands are creating new product categories and transforming their retail spaces in a bid to offer protection from airborne pollution. For more, see our Pollution Market report.
