There are two main types of pharmacy in Japan. Retail pharmacies offer basic medicines and pharmaceutical products, while dispensing pharmacies are typically connected to a nearby hospital or clinic. Customers visiting a dispensing pharmacy receive their medicine via prescription and can speak to a healthcare professional.

KTX archiLAB’s bold new pharmacy is designed to promote a nearby general hospital and enable it to stand out in a competitive market. The studio used a variety of cutting-edge techniques and finishes to create a modern, streamlined aesthetic that evokes a sense of professionalism and trustworthiness in the minds of visitors.

The pharmacy has also improved its quality of service. Where people visiting a pharmacy typically present their prescription at the counter and wait to be called back, patients at KTX archiLAB’s pharmacy simply take a seat in a comfortable waiting area and are promptly visited by an in-house pharmacist.

The Big Picture

Consumers are increasingly interested in health and wellness, and pharmaceutical businesses are investing in design to stand out from the crowd. To find out more, read our Post-pharmacy Brands microtrend.
