Paris – Department store chain Galeries Lafayette is developing a creative space that will pioneer transparency in art and design.
The multidisciplinary space will foster creativity by providing resources for contemporary artists and designers in the French capital. Lafayette Anticipation, which is run by the Fondation d’entreprise Galeries Lafayette, will open in 2017. The creative space will aim to shine a spotlight on the production process behind the pieces on display in order to participate in and anticipate social change.
‘It’s not only objects, it’s the whole story of how we have developed the projects, and how it is linked to personal history,’ exhibition curator François Quintin told Wallpaper.
Creatives will interact with the public through conferences, performances, conversations, screening and workshops, and an exhibition space will display solo and group exhibitions. The first show to be commissioned, Faisons de l’inconnu un Allié, will be held in a warehouse near the foundation’s headquarters and will feature pieces by 14 artists from around the world whose work is connected by its incompleteness.
Galeries Lafayette is looking to the future of art and design by encouraging creativity in the sector, which is in line with our Learning Economy macrotrend.
