The doors are locked and unlocked digitally using radio-frequency identification (RFID), enabling the user to share a digital key with other motorists by selecting the Share My Car option on the touchscreen.

The car, which will be sold at a fixed price in China, Europe and the US, can be controlled remotely via the Lynk & Co app, and the brand is encouraging external third-party software developers to use its open application programming interface (API) to produce additional apps.

‘The 01 will be the most connected car in the world, designed for a modern, urban audience who are used to collaborative consumption and all the benefits that this brings,’ Alain Visser, vice-president of Lynk & Co, told Dezeen.
