London – Audio software developer RjDj has created an app that lets users control the ambient sounds around them.

  • What adaptive headphones do with hardware, Hear aims to do with software
  • The app creates a series of soundscapes using ambient noise to soothe or excite the wearer

There are already earphones on the market such as Doppler Labs’ Here Active Listening System that enable wearers to control real-time noise, like a personal equalizer for the world around you. Hear, the latest app from RjDj, offers a similar, if less refined experience, without the need for expensive earphones or headphones.

Sounds and speech picked up by standard headphones are run through a variety of converters, creating a psychedelic audio experience. Hear enables the wearer to mute voices nearby or to auto-tune them into music. It also lets users hone in on sounds, even while listening to music via Spotify, so they can still be aware of what is going on around them.

The Big Picture
