New York – Up There, a new viral video, tells the story of the dying art of hand-painted signs in New York.
The short documentary follows the hand painters involved in the The Ritual Project, a stop-frame animation commissioned by Stella Artois, and shows how a giant billboard advert for the beer brand was created over two months on the side of a city building. Up There tells the story of the billboard painters and the painstaking process involved in creating the giant adverts that loom high above New York’s city streets.
Telling the process story is becoming a hot topic for brands and was also a pressing theme at this year’s Milan Design Week. Up There taps this growing trend for communicating process and also demonstrates how a real-world billboard can translate into an online campaign via a fascinating viral video.
