Las Vegas – French start-up Fenotek has launched a smart doorbell at CES 2016 that uses beacon technology to identify visitors to your home. It is simply called Hi).

  • Hi) shows the versatility of beacon technology
  • The product illustrates how the Internet of Things is increasingly being used for convenience and security

Available from May 2016 for £276 ($399, €368), Hi) places emphasis on convenience and security. It integrates a high-definition video doorbell that relays sounds and images to your smartphone, a surveillance camera, a motion sensor and a control system if you want to combine it with an electric lock. The company believes this will be useful for deliveries, or for letting you know when your children are safely back from school.

‘In many respects we are responding to convenience and consumer laziness,’ says Fenotek marketing manager Victor Damoine. ‘We want this device to be like a butler who is here to help.’

The Big Picture

Fenotek’s Hi) is an amalgam of existing technologies assembled into one device that fits consumers’ need for increased convenience and security. For more on how devices are becoming more tailored to our everyday lives, read our Awakening Tech macrotrend.
