Miami – Belgian gallery Victor Hunt presents a series of light sculptures by Sabine Marcelis that celebrates the confluence of the sun, sky and clouds.
The colour palette of the Dawn Lights series is inspired by the relationship between time, colour and light, and the moments when the clouds and sun unite in a ‘riot of hues’, according to Marcelis. ‘I looked at the different light temperatures that occur during the day – the warm hues of dawn and the cold tones of dusk.’
Large blocks of solid resin take on different reductionist shapes, each with a single source of white light cast deep inside. The neon cylinders create a subtle glow and highlight the graduating levels of transparency created by the tinted resin.
In line with gallery Victor Hunt’s ethos, the series is proposed as a series of functional ‘designart’ objects. ‘We understand designart as the grey zone between industrial design, crafts, architecture, sculpture, conceptual, installation and many other arts,’ the gallery explains.
