Global – Discovery Channel has launched a new initiative helping people to make small but important decisions to combat the adverse effects of consumerism and climate change.

To mark the release of documentary Racing Extinction, which follows a team of activists and artists as they expose the illegal wildlife trade and widespread fossil fuel extraction, Discovery Channel has launched #StartWith1Thing, a campaign encouraging people to be more aware about the effects of rampant consumerism and climate change on the planet.

From abandoning the use of plastic bags to signing petitions to protect endangered animals, Twitter users have been sharing their altruistic efforts online, creating a growing community of conscious consumers.
