London Design Festival 2015 – Eataipei is an immersive food experience that will lead the visitor on a sensory tour of World Design Capital 2016.

  • Will introduce design objects from designers such as Pili Wu in mediums such as ceramics
  • Five 40-minute tasting sessions to be held daily within the design tent

The exhibition, conceived by designer Shikai Tseng, architect Rain Wu and chef Chung-Ho Tsai, will combine food, design and architecture in carefully curated culinary performances that take place against a backdrop of cutting-edge contemporary art.

‘We have chosen food design to introduce five fundamental aspects of Taipei,’ Rain Wu, curator of Eataipei, tells LS:N Global. ‘Food as a medium to communicate ideas and narratives is very relevant to Taiwanese culture, but also a new and experimental ground at the forefront of design in Europe in recent years.’

The themes – History, Landscape, People, Lifestyle and Future – will each be represented by a dish. Taipeian, a steamed bun with squid ink butter, mixes traditional Taiwanese flavours with the aesthetics of Japanese sushi to represent the inhabitants of Taipei’s strong ties to tradition along with their love of all things foreign and new.

The Big Picture: Taipei is one to watch in the world of design. The exhibition will run at design trade show Tent London from 24 to 27 September. For more on the London Design Festival, see our show preview.
